Below you will find the beginning of my restoration and conversion for my 1970 Mustang from a 250 straight 6 engine to a remanufactured 302. The engine was hand selected by me and remanufactured from S&S Engines. I selected all the components (with lot of suggestion from relatives), but I had Steve Fagan from Hot Rods and Classics, here in Tucson, Az assemble and install the 302. I highly recommond Steve and Jamie for any and all engine building and installation - you can reach him at (520) 888-7100.
Let's start with the general pictures and some basic information:
THE BODY:

The car is an Arizona car - NO RUST!!! I am the 2nd/3rd owner the orginal owner bought the car new at Don Sanderson Ford, in Glendale AZ. and then handed it down to her daughter. At the time when I bought it, it was all orginal with 175K + miles on the body and engine. Now the body looks pretty good - a 6 -10 footer, so all I've done so far is replace the front valance because it was bent and very pitted. It will need a complete paint job, and the bumber brackets replaced and eventually new bumpers. The wing was added at some point and I am undecided on whether to remove it or not.
THE INTERIOR:

Now the interior was recently redone in the original material and color and it looks really good. It will eventually need a new dash board, but that can wait a while.
THE ENGINE:

You are looking at a Ford 250 straight 6 engine, compression 9.0:1 rated at 155 hp. Of course that's when it was new. with 175k + miles it's less then powerful and is pretty tired. As you can see in the other photos the engine bay is in very good shape but not too pretty. Look at the engine you can see it was in need of a lot of TLC - in the form of a complete teardown and rebuilding.
THE REPLACEMENT:

I decided on the 302 engine - keep with what was available at the factory at the time. The 302 was mated with a 3 speed transmission. The engine was 1970 remanufactured power plant by S&S Engines. These are the photos of it still in the crate.

So what's it got??!!! Well, we start with the main pieces: Holley 4b carb, Typhoon intake manifold and Hooker headers turing the single exhaust into dual with thruster mufflers - oh the sound!!!!. I think it looks great. Steve put it all together and detailed painted and routed electrical, gas line, hoses. Cleaned up the entire engine bay. EXCELLENT JOB!!! A new triple core radiator and shroud, all new a/c hoses all new heater hoses, Steve's a master.

This is the engine nearly completed. It's clean and crisp. These images are before all then hoses and wiring were added. Steve took the time to remove parts from the bay wall and replaced them after hitting the complete inside with the flat black paint - a work of art!!.
